Learning Outside the Classroom

I work at a hotel at the University of Utah and have also tutored in Math and Spanish at the U of U while attending school there.  I've always been a swimmer and loved being a competitive varsity swimmer in high school.  I am now a member of Utah Masters Swimming which is an adult team that works out together at various Utah pools and competes if they choose.   In the past couple years I have picked up climbing, backpacking, and camping as regular hobbies, to which I can attribute my latest achievement of finishing my first lead climb!  All of these activities contribute to learning discipline, time-management, confidence-building, and responsibility, which are important inside and outside the classroom.

My love of the outdoors has lead me to explore various parts of the western United States, including Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area (NV), Yellowstone National Park (WY/MT/ID), Zion National Park (UT), Snow Canyon State Park (UT), Escalante Canyons (UT), Kodachrome Basin State Park (UT), Moab (UT), City of Rocks (ID), and my most frequented location, Grand Teton National Park (WY).  There are quite a few places I want to visit soon, namely Yosemite National Park (CA), and I look forward to backpacking in Banff National Park (Alberta, Canada) in Summer 2011.
